Animal Habitats and Nature Centers 


Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge & Barrier Island Center

Fish, bird watch, and explore the trails to see what wildlife you can observe. This refuge protects vital habitats for loggerheads and green sea turtles, and you can see nesting sea turtles here. 

Crane Creek Promenade Manatee Observation Area

Sit on a bench or take a stroll and try to spot manatees or other wildlife. 

Environmental Learning Center

255 Live Oak Drive, Vero Beach, FL | (772) 589-5050

Walk the trails to see if you can spot any wildlife, visit the touch tank for close-up encounters, or take a pontoon tour. The ELC offers a variety of adult and youth classes and camps. 

Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge

140,000-acre wildlife refuge that features a visitor center with exhibits, trails, programs, and more. Black Point Wildlife Drive is a 7-mile auto tour that is popular for wildlife viewing. There is also a handicap-accessible Manatee Observation Deck. 

Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge

America's first National Wildlife Refuge is celebrating its 120th anniversary in 2023. Enjoy fishing, birding, hiking, and ranger-led programs. 

Turkey Creek Sanctuary

1518 Port Malabar Blvd NE, Palm Bay, FL | (321) 676-6690

130 acres of undeveloped Florida land, you can find native Florida plants and wildlife. You might spot manatees, alligators, gopher tortoises, indigo snakes, and more. There is a nature center, classes, tours, and more available! 


Aquariums and Zoos


Brevard Zoo

I highly recommend an annual membership to Brevard Zoo! There are a variety of animals in the Africa, Australia, Caribbean, Florida, and Rainforest exhibits, along with giraffe and bird feedings. Some of the popular animals there include lions, sea otters, and meerkats. Kids will also enjoy the playground and splash pad.

Cox Farms

See the rescued animals at this local farm.  

LaPorte Farms

Kids will enjoy seeing animals such as a zebra, llama, miniature horses, a variety of birds, and more. LaPorte Farms also has special events and camps. Admission is donations.   

Romelia Farms Wildlife Sanctuary

This 36-acre wildlife preserve is a sanctuary for 150 animals! You can take a guided petting zoo tour and also have an encounter with a sloth or anteater.

Bass Pro Shop

This store features a 16,000 gallon aquarium (with fish feedings every M/W/F at 1 pm!), alligators, and wild hogs.
