UPDATED: Here's What's Open for Kids in Brevard County

Playgrounds, Libraries, The Zoo, Farms and More!

By Amanda Aharon, Owner & Publisher of Macaroni Kid South Brevard June 1, 2020

The Governor has begun the phased re-opening of Florida. I know this is a scary thought for some people. We encourage everyone to do their own research and do whatever you feel is right for your family. We are simply providing options for those who are ready to start getting out of the house. Keep checking back as we will continue adding more as things begin to open!

Playgrounds

Many playgrounds in Brevard County are beginning to reopen. They are still asking that you practice social distancing and gather in groups of 10 people or less. Visitors are encouraged to take precautions like using hand sanitizer before and after use of the playground equipment.

  • All Brevard County Parks and Recreation Playgrounds are now open. This includes: Wickham Park, Max Rodes, Viera Regional, Rotary Park at Suntree, Police Foundation Park, Micco Park, Paradise Beach Park, Canova Park and many more!
  • The City of Melbourne has re-opened its playgrounds, park restrooms, and ballfields. Click HERE for a list of these parks.
  • Riverfront Park in Historic Cocoa Village is now open.
  • Parks and playgrounds in Cocoa Beach have been reopened as of May 8th.
  • Ryckman Park in Melbourne Beach is open.
  • Gleason Park in Indian Harbour Beach is open.

Gymboree Play & Music

Gymboree is open for Private Open Gym! You can reserve the play floor for 1 hour for your family and/or friends. The cost is $40. Your group must consist of 10 people or less. This is for kids 5 years old and younger. They will be cleaning vigorously before and after each visit. Health screenings including a temporal temperature check and survey will be required. Teachers will be wearing masks and it is suggested that adults in your group wear masks as well. Children will not be required or expected to wear a mask. Reservations will be made on a weekly basis, starting the Saturday prior. You do NOT have to be a member to attend. Call 321-259-5669 to schedule your visit! Available times are as follows:

  • Tuesday's and Thursday's at 9am
  • Monday's, Wednesday's and Fridays, 1pm, 2:30pm or 4pm
  • Saturday's at 9am, 10:30am or 12pm

The Brevard Zoo

The Brevard Zoo opened to members May 16th and will reopen to non-members May 23rd. To ensure proper social distancing they are limiting the number of visitors each day. You will have to reserve a time slot before you visit the Zoo. All adults and children over the age of 7 will be required to wear a mask or face covering when entering the zoo, but may remove your mask as long as you are social distancing. There are certain spots around the zoo that do require a mask. Other changes include a one-way path through the Zoo loop and they will not be accepting cash.

The splash pad is now open at limited capacity. They are allowing up to 30 people in the splash pad at a time for 30 minutes. Then they sanitize and let in the next group.

Brevard County Libraries

All Brevard County Libraries are now open from 9am-5pm Monday-Friday.

Meeting and group events will remain canceled until further notice. Some libraries are holding virtual events via Facebook Live. All of the libraries will still be offering services such as phone and online holds for materials with a curbside hold pickup, digital materials with the Overdrive/Libby app, and paper re-employment forms outside the entrances. The book drops are open, and materials are not due until June 1.

Bowling

Bowlero in Melbourne is open for business! Their current hours are Wednesday, Thursday & Sunday from 3pm-10pm and Friday & Saturday from 3pm-12am.
