Morgan's Place - A Sensory Delight!

Learn About our Local Best Kept Secret!

By Macaroni Jacqui January 18, 2017
Being an "adult", it is easy to forget the joy of imagination and creativity. After all, when do we really have time for such magical things anymore while we cook, clean, work and reproduce more little people?

I had the honor of visiting Morgan's Place - our 2016 Best Kept Secret winner of our Gold Daisy Awards! In all honesty, I didn't know what Morgan's Place was. After being in touch with a very friendly employee there, Tonya Bloodgard, I learned that Morgan's Place is a second home for people with physical and mental disabilities.

When I was invited to come inside and see the place for myself, my imaginative mind was blown! Knowing what this place is, and EXPERIENCING this place, are worlds apart! Let me take you on a visual tour of this incredible second home:

Morgan's Place has 4 separate activity rooms to inspire all 5 of our senses. This is perfect for those who have ADD, ADSD, are wheelchair bound or are delayed in learning. Many parents have testified to their disabled children and teens developing much quicker after coming here.

One of the first rooms you will enter is this nifty dark room with cool lights, as pictured above! These pillar lights are about 5 feet high and change color according to the dice being rolled. Handicapped kids who have difficulty with motor skills are able to push the dice or roll it on their level, and learn colors as the lights change accordingly. They "light up" (ba-dum...psssssh!) as they control the cool change in the room!

In the same room, there is this Vibration Bed. Morgan's Place has music playing in the room, and everyone is welcome to sit on this bed to feel the vibrations of the music. Kids in wheelchairs are lifted out of their chair to enjoy feeling the music!

After walking through sheer curtains displaying friendly cartoons, you enter a room with a lit up ball pit! In all honesty, this pit looks like it's made of bubbles. Instead of selfishly jumping in, I practiced self control and took pictures ;) This ball pit also changes color.

On the wall next to this pit is an awesome tactile touch and feel wall thingy (I'm sure this isn't what it's really called). Members of Morgan's Place enjoy feeling the different textures and hearing the different sounds each one makes.

I have to apologize, I totally skipped about a thousand different things that Morgan's Place has to offer. You'll have to come and see it for yourself! However, if you step outside into their beautiful yard, you will see bright colors, more sensory experiences and a bright place for everyone to celebrate life. When following the walkway, there are several arches you walk under with different hanging objects to create different sights and sounds.

They have a pavilion for birthday parties, and a great addition coming within the next year or two to rock the world of their Members and Friends!

As said above, a lot has been left out. I highly recommend you get in touch with Morgan's Place (remember, Tonya is the lovely lady who I have been in touch with - tell her Jacqui from Macaroni Kid sent you!) and get involved.

You can enroll your kids with disabilities as Members, or your children without disabilities ages 5 and under as Friends. Memberships are yearly and get you access to Morgan's Place at a discounted rate - plus the ability to bring friends!
